The course, Understanding the Social Service Sector , provides an appreciation and understanding of Singapore’s social needs, key stakeholders in the sector and social service initiatives and schemes. Singapore’s Social Compact, is an e-Learning course that provides an overview of the development of Singapore’s social services over the years and introduces the principles behind its provision. It covers six areas of social service provision which include trends and challenges in the future.
Counselling Skills and Practice: Introduction and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy: Introduction provide foundational skills in counselling and therapy. It exposes learners to ethical considerations and self-care practices needed in the counselling profession. The course, Solution Focused Brief Therapy: Introduction , trains learners to apply Solutions Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) when interacting with difficult clients.
Motivational Interviewing: An Introduction for Social Service Practitioners , equips learners with the skills to engage and facilitate intrinsic motivation in their clients, in order to change behaviour and progress towards an improved well-being.

Ms Alice Lee-Tok
Alice is the author of a parenting book titled ‘Building Bridges with your Teenagers’ and has more than 15 years of experience as a Family Education consultant and training specialist where she specialises in children and families. She is also a family counsellor, family life resource speaker and a certified behaviour analyst. Alice has conducted numerous interactive talks/workshops/trainings/supervisions for various client groups in different social service settings across Thailand, Malaysia and China. She has an Advanced Diploma in Early Childhood Studies, Bachelor of Arts in Children & Family Education from the Edith Cowan University (ECU) and Masters in Counselling with the University of South Australia (UniSA).
Mr. Edwin Sam
Edwin holds a Master in Public Administration from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He has an Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA) and is also a certified administrator of both the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and DISC. Edwin has experience with working with the government and civil society in close to ten Asia-Pacific countries in the areas of consulting, training, capacity building and volunteer management. He was the executive director of a regional NGO and has designed and managed training programmes in the healthcare and education sectors in South Asia, namely India and Sri Lanka.
Dr. Joel Yang
Joel is a clinical psychologist by training and a full member of the Singapore Psychological Society (SPS) as well as a chartered psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS). Since 2006, he has worked in general and psychiatric hospitals, as well as in community mental health settings in Australia with various institutions under Queensland Health and in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital in Singapore. Formerly head of the counselling programme at Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) University, he currently holds an appointment with Yale-NUS College, and maintains an independent private practice, Mind What Matters. He works from a Cognitive-Behavioural and Solution-Focused approach, incorporating mindfulness, motivational interviewing and positive psychology in his therapeutic approaches.
Dr. Roland Yeow
Roland is the executive director of Boys’ Town and has been a corporate trainer since 2001. He has published several research papers on organisational learning and development needs and developed several successful programmes in leadership and team-building. Among his many accolades are several new initiatives in outreach, research and therapy services. He is an appointed member of the New Media Taskforce by the National Youth Committee on Youth Guidance and Rehabilitation (NYGR). Roland has an ACTA, Master’s in Engineering Management, Bachelor’s of Engineering Management and a Ph.D. (Management). He has also obtained certifications in non-profit management and executive leadership training in managing non-profit agencies.
Ms. Tan Yeh Min
Yeh Min holds a Bachelor in Social Sciences (Social Work Honours) from NUS. She has an Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA) and a WSQ Diploma in Adult and Continuing Education (DACE). She was the winner of the TSAO Ng Yu Shun Award for Excellence in Ageing Study in 2004 and brings with her diverse experience from providing direct services to the seniors, service development of eldercare programmes as well as training and development in courses relevant to the eldercare sector. She is a registered social worker under the Social Work Accreditation and Advisory Board (SWAAB).
Dr Terence Yow
Terence is the divisional director of AMKFSC Community Services Ltd. (AMKFSC) and has more than 20 years of experience as a social worker supporting individuals and families in both the
healthcare and social service setting. He obtained his master’s and doctorate in Social Work from NUS and has also completed an advanced training in Family Therapy at the University of Calgary (UCalgary) in Canada. Terence has been lecturing in the Social Work undergraduate and post-graduate programmes at NUS and SUSS since 2008. He is an approved clinical supervisor with the University of Michigan, NUS, SUSS, Curtin and Swinburne University. His work had been published in professional journals and academic textbooks and he has presented in several local and international conferences.
